Competent Health Care |
| The Iowa Center on Health
Disparities is available to conduct professional
trainings for health providers on culturally competent
health care. These trainings can be tailored to fit
your organization's budget and needs, and can range
in length from brown-bag lunch presentations to weekend
seminars. Trainings typically cover a range of topics
such as cultural competency theory, changing demographics,
health disparities, working with translators, working
with low-literacy populations, making organizations
more welcoming for minorities, cultural competency
guidelines for providers, CLAS Standards, and working
specifically with various ethnic groups. The training
programs are dynamic and interactive, and include
written reference materials and books. They are ideally
suited for nurses, physicians, social workers, health
educators, public safety professionals, and other
providers that address the human service needs of
diverse and underserved populations. Attendees are
eligible to receive CEUs, CMEs, or other professional
licensure credit for continuing education. For more
information about arranging a culturally competent
health care training for your organization, please
contact Drs. Michele Devlin or Mark Grey at (319)
